Bernini-Firminy

A modernist chapel is re-seen through baroque excess: not as a joke, but as a test of how images manufacture authority. Bernini-Firminy repositions Le Corbusier’s Firminy chapel under Bernini’s theatrical detail systems, using AI style transfer and symmetry-based generators to treat architectural truth as something constructed, especially in the age of post-truth.

When ornament becomes an algorithm

Repositioning Le Corbusier’s chapel in Firminy under the lens of Bernini’s baroque details — an exercise on AI neural-net style transfer and symmetry-based 3D object generators — thinking of the role of image construction in the age of post-truth.

The project begins with an intentionally loaded pairing: Firminy’s modernist restraint and Bernini’s baroque insistence on persuasion. Instead of treating ornament as historical style, this work treats it as a behavior: a method for guiding attention, manufacturing meaning, and amplifying belief through surface.
